Darlene M. Bewley, 77, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, in Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery, Aledo, Illinois. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the church.
The former Darlene Marie Smith was born December 5, 1933, in Gilchrest, Mercer County, Illinois, to Jimmy and Ila Hildebrand Smith. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Wayne Wharton. She married Richard Lee Bewley on November 24, 1951, in Aledo. She was a cook for the Aledo School District #201 for 15 years, retiring in 1979.
Darlene had been an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, where she was a deacon and co-chairman of the kitchen committee for 11 years, and a member of the church choir and the Women?s Morning Circle. She enjoyed traveling, glass etching, oil painting, and music.
Darlene is survived by three sons, Terry Bewley and his wife Phyllis of Aledo, Edward Bewley and his partner Trina of East Moline, and Ronnie Bewley and his wife Jill of Seaton, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jesse Bewley and his girlfriend Marci Ross, Amanda Martyn and her husband Bryan; Adam Bewley and his wife Hilary, and Katie Bewley and her partner Angie Ragsdale; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Martyn.
