Sgt. First Class Jeremy R. Gonzalez, 38, of Lawton, Oklahoma, formerly of Manlius, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at his residence.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, 601 21st Street, Moline, Illinois. Burial with full military honors will follow at Rock Island National Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends is 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Visitation is 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be a prayer service at 3 p.m. Sunday, followed by Military Service Presentation and Recognition, Gold Star Mothers, and Tributes.
Jeremy was born on July 10, 1973, in Sterling, Illinois. He graduated from Manlius High School in 1991. Immediately following high school, he began his life-long military career with the Illinois National Guard, later to transfer to the U.S. Army. He served tours of duty in Germany, Hawaii, Korea, California, Texas and Oklahoma. He also served our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005, when he earned the Bronze Star.
Jeremy loved taking care of his soldiers, spending time with friends and family, golfing, guns, video games, UFC and MMA, the Boston Bruins, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Iowa Hawkeyes, but most of all, being with his wife and two little girls.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Jude LaBruno-Gonzalez, and two daughters, Jaden Gonzalez and Jessa Gonzalez, all of Lawton, Oklahoma; his parents, Julie and Garry Hagerman of Sheffield, Illinois, and Ray Gonzalez and Michelle Baker of Nelson, Illinois; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth Woodring of Sterling. Also surviving are his sisters, Rachel Hagerman of Kewanee, Illinois, Tanya Hagerman Cole of Sheffield, Steffanie Hagerman of Peoria, Illinois, and Shauna Gonzalez of Sterling; his brothers, Steven (Heather) Gonzalez of Rock Falls, Illinois, and Shay Gonzalez of Rock Falls; and six nieces and seven nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Fred Woodring; his paternal grandparents, Trinidad and Soila Gonzalez; his uncle, Larry Woodring; and his aunts, Terry Chapman and Helen Salinas.
