Cathryn S. Harsha, 90, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, January 8, 2009, at home.
Services are 4 p.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Donald Jackson officiating. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. There will be a brief prayer service at Oxford United Methodist Church, Oxford, Iowa, at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by burial in Oxford Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, or the University of Iowa Foundation.
The former Cathryn Siesel McCleery was born November 28, 1918, in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Fred J. and Winifred (Sies) McCleery. She graduated from the University of Iowa. She married H. Vincent Harsha on December 4, 1942, in Iowa City. She was a homemaker most of her life, but during WW II, she worked in the Iowa Memorial Union providing food for the Midshipmen who were training at the university.
She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline; United Methodist Women; Chapter BL of P.E.O. Sisterhood; Tri-City Garden Club; University of Iowa Alumni Association; and Questors, and a former member of King?s Daughters. She enjoyed gardening and piano, and was a great cook. In earlier years, she was an active leader in Camp Fire Girls. She left a legacy of strong values for her family.
Cathryn is survived by her husband of 66 years, Vincent; three children and their spouses, Bertie and Leonard See of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, Chris Lovejoy of Chicago, Illinois, and David and Amy Harsha of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Shannon Lovejoy, Bradley and Katherine Harsha, Wesley and Haley Harsha, Jeffery See, and Kathryn See; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Nicholas Lovejoy; a step-great-grandson, Connor McNee; and her sister-in-law, Carmine Miller of Indianola, Iowa.
