Ruth M. Walker, 72, of Sherrard, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her large family.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Burial is in Andalusia Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Moline Animal Aid Humane Society.
The former Ruthie Mae Houk was born February 23, 1941, in Doniphan, Missouri, the daughter of Buster and Gladys Sipes Driver. She married Melvin E. Walker on November 16, 1957, in Andalusia, Illinois. She had been a health care aide for the Mercer County Health Department, and had worked at Servus Rubber in Rock Island. She was a stock car driver, and was a champion Raceway Darling at East Moline Speedway. She loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed gardening, camping, and motorcycles.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Melvin; six children and their spouses, Kenneth and Laurie Walker of Milan, Illinois, Sharon and Robert Brooks of Alpha, Illinois, Penny Graves of Cocoa, Florida, Vickie and Larry McMullin of Orion, Illinois, Theresa and Greg Ebberson of Viola, Illinois, and Nancy and Tim Kisner of Milan; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry Driver and Cecil and Connie Driver, all of Milan. She was preceded in death by two children, Melvin Jr. and Cynthia, and brothers, James Houk and Bill Jo Driver.
