Coal Valley, Illinois Russell M. ''Russ'' Caulkins age 78 of Coal Valley, IL, died, Monday, November 26, 2001 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, IL. Funeral services for Mr. Caulkins will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, November 29, 2001 at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with the Reverend Gene A. Meyers of First Baptist Church, Colona, officiating. Visitation is Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with Military Honors performed by the Colona American Legion, Post 1233. Memorials may be directed to the family, for a memorial to be determined at a later date. Russell Merlin Caulkins was born March 4, 1923 in McLean, Illinois, the son of Alva F. and Elizabeth (Simpson) Caulkins. He married Shirley Mae Strader on June 9, 1943 in Cambridge, IL. Mr. Caulkins served as a Medic in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired in 1975 from the IH Case Farmall Works in Rock Island, where he was an assembler for 32 years. He spent his retirement enjoying his many interests, which included; fishing, hunting, boating, water skiing, landscaping, gardening, and woodcarving. He was a member of the U.A.W., Local 1414 in Rock Island, IL, and the American Legion Post 246, Moline. Mr. Caulkins survivors include his wife, Shirley; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy Snider of Coal Valley, Nancy and Jerry Rodgers of East Moline, Lana and Robert Powers of Davenport, and Jackie Caulkins of Rock Island; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard ''Bud'' and Robin Caulkins of Colona, Don Caulkins of Davenport, Tommie L. Caulkins of Worthington Springs, Florida, and Merle Wayne and Jackie Caulkins of Andalusia; nineteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Franklin and Freda Caulkins of Brimfield, IL, Al Caulkins of Taylor Ridge, IL, Dale and Pat Caulkins of Clayton, IL, and Lloyd Hampton of Redlands, CA.
