Russell D. Poppy

Russell D. Poppy, 89, of Moline, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at home.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Russell Duane Poppy was born December 7, 1932, in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Frank and Ferne (Shattuck) Poppy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Carole Ann Redmann on June 29, 1962, in Geneseo, Illinois. She passed away September 18, 2012.

He worked for John Deere Plow Planter for over 27 years, retiring on January 1, 1992. He then was a bus driver for Ridgecrest Retirement Village for over 10 years.

Russell was a former member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, and Moline American Legion Post #246.

He loved camping and playing roly poly in his younger years. He also enjoyed Sunday’s with his family playing Farkle, and watching Westerns on TV (his favorite horse was named King). His favorite flowers were Black-eyed Susans and Sunflowers.

Russell is survived by five daughters, Anna (David) Loncarich of Bettendorf, Andrea (Julius “J”) Perez of Davenport, Lori (Chris) Herr of Colona, Barbra (Brad) Harker of Hampton, and Susan (Rick) Shaffer of Port Byron; eight grandchildren, Sarah Perez, Zachary Lorenson, Justin Lorenson, Phoenix Herr, Jeffrey Herr, Kristen Harker, Ryan Harker, and Andrew Poppy; and a sister, Betty Kruse of Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carole Poppy; a granddaughter, Sasha Perez; and siblings, Clifford Poppy and Bonnie Kruse.
