Rose Gibson

September 12, 1926 — October 8, 2016

Rose Gibson, 90 years old, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Manor Care at Utica Ridge, Davenport.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Episcopal Church in Moline, with The Reverend Roger Hungerford officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Cremation will take place prior to services at Trimble Crematory, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa.

She was born on September 12, 1926, in Paterson New Jersey, to Antoinette and Russell Costa. She met her future husband, Gene Gibson from Clinton, Iowa, during World War II in New York City, while he was on shore leave. They were married in May, 1945.

After Gene graduated from college, they moved to Moline, where Gene worked at the First National Bank. Rose primarily worked at home raising their three children. But she also relished her volunteer activities. She served as an officer in the Moline Junior Women's Club and the Moline Public Hospital Auxiliary. After a move to Effingham, Illinois, she continued her volunteer work and headed up the effort to build the first YMCA in Effingham.

During the late 1970's, they moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina. They moved back to Moline in the early 1990's when Gene's health began to fail. Gene preceded her in death in 1992.

Rose was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Moline. Golf and her memberships in several country clubs were a big part of her life. She actively played until she was 80-years old.

Left to honor her memory are daughter, Kathleen Gibson (Kimberly) of LeClaire; her grandson, Nicholas Gibson; and daughter Mary Jane Gibson of Los Angeles, California. Her son, Stephen, preceded her in death in 1989. She is also survived by her brother, Russell, in South Carolina. Her parents, Antoinette and Russell preceded her in death as did her brother, Sam, and sisters, Mary and Anna. Rose is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews spread across the United States.

The family wishes to thank the kind and thoughtful caregivers at Manor Care Utica Ridge Davenport.
