Rosa Marie (Smith) Ledgerwood, 86, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Silvis, Illinois.

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Great-Aunt, and Friend.

Rosa Marie (Smith) Ledgerwood was born May 2, 1934, in Jackson, Mississippi, the daughter of Leburn and Elaine (Bryan) Smith. She joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and honorably discharged in 1954 due to the birth of her daughter, Theresa in 1954. Shortly after, Theresa was joined by a brother, Michael in 1956. They were the light of Rosa's life.

Later in life she joined the United States Transportation Command as a merchant seaman, in which she retired from in 1975.

After retirement, her interests included staying in touch with family, knitting and crocheting, playing bingo, solitaire and online games with friends. She was very active on social media. She devoted much of her time and energy to correspondence with grandkids and great grandchildren.

Rosa is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa (John) Schonig of Sequim, Washington; three grandchildren, Matthew Coulombe, Jillian (Schonig) Munger, and Joseph Schonig and their spouses; Daughter-in-law Denise Satori, her brother-in-law Joseph Rebholz of Moline, Illinois; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother and two sisters. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael, her parents and three sisters.

There will be no memorial service. Her ashes will be laid to rest in Rock Island National Cemetery with her sisters, nearest and dearest to her heart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to one’s favorite charity.
