Services for Ronald L. Mitchell, age 69 of Silvis, Illinois, are 1:00 PM Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois, memorials may be made to the Giant Goose League, Atkinson, Illinois or to the American Legion Post 26, Davenport, Iowa, both of which he held memberships. Mr. Mitchell died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 in Illini Hospital, Silvis, Illinois. Ronald Leroy Mitchell was born May 4, 1932 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of John V. and Pauline (Young) Mitchell. He married Wilma K. Edwards August 29, 1953 in Rock Island, Illinois. Mr. Mitchell served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a millwright at Alcoa for 38 years retiring in 1994. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Rainbow Valley Boys country band, appearing on WOC television and KSTT radio, he was a Cub Master for the Silvis Pack 113, he was a Silvis Little League Coach for many years, he was a Jeff Gordon fan, a Cub fan, and was a fan of The Fighting Illini. He enjoyed bowling in the Ranchers Mix, and was on the Legion team in the Electric League. He enjoyed camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Wilma; four sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Teri Mitchell of East Moline, Jeff and Barb Mitchell of Rock Island, Chris and JoNita Mitchell of Silvis, and Shawn and Dori Mitchell of East Moline; many grand and great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Cay, Deana, and Mary; and two brothers, John and Norman.
