Roman J. Zay, 86, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society, Davenport.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is at Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Following burial, a luncheon will be held at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Roman John Zay was born December 13, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Gregory and Olga Zay. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Virginia McCarthy, with whom he had a daughter, Jeannie. He later married Jean Scheringa in December of 1975, and they had two children, Gregory and Jessica.

Roman "Jack" was an architectural engineer for Hoge-Warren-Zimmermann Co. in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, and later for Barrier Corporation in Morton Grove, Illinois. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of Davenport; three children, Jeannie and Jean-Luc Tabailloux of Grenoble, France, Gregory and Julie Zay of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, and Jessica and Brian Ballard of Moline; grandchildren, Paul (Amanda), Timothy (Bethany), Anna, Jenny, Marc, Luc, and Joseph Tabailloux, Addyson Zay, Nathan Steinbeck, and Kashton Ballard; and great-grandchildren, Zaylee, Marcel, and Leisel. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia, and a sister, Irene Zay.
