Robert R. Thompson

Aledo, Illinois Funeral Services for Robert R. "Cowboy Bob" Thompson, 79, of Aledo, will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church, Aledo. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church or the Steward United Methodist Church. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements. Bob died on Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg. Bob was born on October 25, 1923, in Ohio Grave Township, to Jean and Gertrude (Bradford) Thompson. He was raised in the Sunbeam area before moving to Steward, Illinois in his teen years. While in Sunbeam he was an active member of the Sunbeam Boy Scounts and Sunbeam Youth Group activities. After high school Bob moved to New Mexico where he found his true passion, being a Cowboy. He worked on ranches in Arizona and New Mexico until his retirement. Bob was fond of memorizing and reciting poetry. His love of horses and early 1900 farm equipment led to his collection and restoration of the early machinery. Bob faithfully attended the Steward United Methodist Church while living there and in his retirement years, Sunbeam United Presbyterian Church. Bob is survived by his step-mother, Grace Thompson; a sister-in-law: Sandy Thompson, both of California; nieces and nephews: Wendy and Bob Rohwer of Lake Forest, CA; Gail and Kendall Viele of Colleyville, TX and Mark and Nancy Thompson of Riverside, CA; and several cousins.
