Services for Robert L. Odean, formerly of Moline, are 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island, with The Reverends David Geenen and Michael Armstrong officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island.
Robert Leslie Odean was born November 30, 1926, in Moline, the son of Herbert and Bessie Mable (Allen) Odean. He graduated from Moline High School in 1945. He married Helen Lee on March 7, 1948, in Olds, Iowa. He was an airplane mechanic for the United States Army Air Force, serving during, and after, World War II in Germany, France, and North Africa.
He worked as a pattern maker for various pattern shops in the Quad Cities for 40 years, retiring in 1990.
Bob was a 60-year member of Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, and was very active in the church as an elder, board chairman, property chairman, and serving on various committees. He was a member of the Trio Lodge No. 57 and the Thor Lodge of Vikings, Moline. He was also a volunteer Scout leader, serving for over ten years with Boy Scout Troop 254 and Explorer Post 254 in Rock Island. From the 1970?s through 2012, he successfully operated a number of rental properties. He enjoyed socializing with friends, traveling, being a ?jack of all trades?, and spending summers in their family cabin in Minnesota.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Phoenix, a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Sandy Odean of Dallas, Texas, a daughter-in-law, Darlene Odean of Parker, Colorado, and grandchildren, David and Kaitlin Odean of Elizabeth, Colorado, Michael Odean of Parker, Colorado, and Lesley Hamilton of Dallas, and a nephew, Jeff Odean. He was preceded in death by sons, Mark and Barry Odean, his parents, a step-mother, Sadie Peterson Odean, and a brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Dorothy Odean.
