Robert G. Echols, 82, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Monday, November 16, 2015, at ManorCare Health Services, Davenport, Iowa, after a six-month bout with cancer.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory in Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. There will be no services.

Bob was born May 31, 1933, in Davenport, the son of Guy H. and Edna N. (Spencer) Echols. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in White Sands, New Mexico, from 1954 to 1957. He married Colette Staelens on July 27, 1958, in Moline. They were divorced in 1982. He received his Master's Degree in Education from Iowa State University in 1969.

After several years teaching industrial arts at Arrowhead Ranch in Coal Valley, Illinois, he followed his innate love of woodworking and became the owner of Echols Wood and Cane Shop in the Village of East Davenport and later in LeClaire.

He is survived by his former wife, Colette Erikson of Moline, a son and daughter-in-law, Eric S. and Candy Echols of Davenport; a daughter and son-in-law, Erin C. and Kevin Hester of Bettendorf, Iowa; four granddaughters, Jennifer Vinson, and Arianne, Autumn, and Grace Echols; a great-grandson, Mylo Kirkpatrick; a sister, Audrey Colson of Bettendorf, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and his beloved horse, Flicka.

The family would like to thank the staffs at ManorCare, the V.A. Clinic, and UnityPoint Hospice for their wonderful care.
