Richard Silliman, 87, of East Moline, Illinois, former Corporate Secretary and Associate General Counsel for Deere and Company, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, in his home.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quad City Symphony or the Richard Silliman Memorial Fund to be established by the family.
Richard George Silliman was born August 11, 1922, in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Charles and Mabel (Winegar) Silliman. He married Mary Yost on June 12, 1945, in Byron, Illinois. She died July 31, 2005.
Richard served in the United States Navy during World War II. He received his bachelor?s degree from Cornell College and his law degree from Northwestern University. He was an attorney for the Elgin National Watch Company for ten years before moving to the Quad Cities, where he worked 25 years for Deere and Company.
He served as president and was a board member for the Quad City Symphony. He also served on the board for the YMCA in Elgin and Moline for many years. He was a great supporter of the arts and had a great love for the opera. He enjoyed golf, cooking, and sailing with his wife.
Dick is survived by a daughter, Martha Silliman and her companion, Janet Malmberg, of Draper, Utah, a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Clare Silliman of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, a sister, Joan Pollard of Beaverton, Oregon, and a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and June Silliman of Coralville, Iowa.
