Rick Steger, 59, of East Moline, Illinois, died suddenly on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo, Illinois.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Center of Excellence for Huntington?s Disease.
Richard Joseph Steger was born June 12, 1953, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Valentine and Dorothy Gibbons Steger. He graduated from Western Illinois University, and served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married Elizabeth Kurtz Perreira on April 23, 2005, in Rock Island. He was a welder at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 36 years, retiring in 2009.
Rick was past Chef De Gare and a 23 year member of 40 and 8 Voiture 433 in Annawan, Illinois, and a member of the Colona American Legion, Ex-Servicemen?s Club, and UAW Local 865. He enjoyed camping, and showing his classic El Caminos and driving them in parades for political campaigns. He loved spending time with his daughters and grandchildren, and was a ?jack of all trades? except plumbing.
Rick is survived by his wife, Liz Steger; two daughters, Carey Mayer and her husband Allen of Peoria, Illinois, and Valerie Kate Steger of Moline; a step-son, Dan Perreira and his wife Monica of California; five grandchildren, Conrad and Katherine Mayer and Salina, Leilana, and Maile Perreira; siblings and their spouses, LaVaun and Gerry Davis, Mike and Pat Steger, and Tim and Patsy Steger, all of Milan, Illinois, and Linda and Jim Bussey of Dora, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred Steger and his wife Barbara.
