Richard L. Frutiger

Richard L. Frutiger, 90, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Sunday, December 31, 2017, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.

Services are 12 Noon Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, 1700 1st Street, Coal Valley, with the Rev. Jim DeBisschop officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to Noon Saturday at the funeral home. Friends are invited to join the family at a luncheon at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church following the burial. Memorials may be made to the Richard Frutiger Memorial Fund.

Richard Leonard Frutiger was born December 27, 1927, in Moline, Illinois, to Alfred and Autumn Standish Knight Frutiger. He married Mary Louise Rakestraw on September 10, 1949, in Kewanee, Illinois. She died August 22, 2014. Dick served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. He was a security officer at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1991. He previously was a Master Barber, and worked for the Moline and Rock Island Police Departments. He was a Master of Karate, and belonged to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley.

Dick is survived by three children, Richard Frutiger and his wife Laurie of Rock Island, Vicki Bellson of Ashland, Tennessee, and Michael "Tony" Frutiger and his wife Lynnette of Orion, Illinois; a daughter-in-law, Janin Paine of Venice Beach, California; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Floyd Frutiger and his wife Betty of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Bruce Paine.
