Richard L. "Dick" Connell

July 7, 1933 — February 22, 2023

Richard L. “Dick” Connell, 89, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Bickford of Moline.

Private burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Richard Lee Connell was born July 7, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Alex Bruce and Lydia (Nelson) Connell. He served in the U.S. Army and went on to earn his MBA from the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Dick enjoyed his time in Japan while in the Army so much that he spent three decades professionally overseas, most importantly back in Japan, where he met his wife, Chizuru Arisaka. The couple was married December 16, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

He first worked for Hallmark and later for Flexi-van Leasing, Inc. where he spent 18 years as an overseas representative, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and especially loved their trips to Africa, New Zealand where the couple spent a lot of their time biking, and to various NASCAR races across the United States.

Dick was a Kansas City Chiefs fan (he thoroughly enjoyed their recent Super Bowl victory) and was a dog-lover. He will be truly missed by his beloved dog, Buddy. He is survived by his loving wife of over 37 years, Chizuru.

Chizuru would like to extend her heartfelt appreciation to special friends Bob and Sara Moore, Chris Sanchez, Chris Copeland, and Jen Duncan, for their friendship and support.
