Richard L. Boens

Richard Boens, 84, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at UnityPoint Health -Trinity Rock Island.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the church.

Richard Leo Boens was born on May 30, 1931, to the late Gustaf and Martha (Rydell) Boens. He grew up on the family farm with his brothers, Bud and Bob.

Richard met his wife, Donna Cook, in school, and after his service in the United States Army, they were married August 14, 1954, in Milan, Illinois. They were blessed with three children, Greg, Dorrie and Pam. He provided for his family through his lifelong passion of farming, as well as with a 36-year career with John Deere. His love for his family and farming kept him busy until the time of his death.

Richard cherished his time with his family and friends. He loved traveling, fishing, hunting, NASCAR, and all things that characterize the Midwest farmer. He loved watching his grandchildren grow, participate in sports and become the young men and women of character that he himself demonstrated.

Always a hard worker, Richard's leisure time was often spent, the past few years, at Mulligan's with his friends, Maynard, Tim, Sandy, Drew, Linda, Peter, and many others.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of nearly 62 years, Donna; along with his three children, Greg (Leah) Boens, Dorrie (Lance) Love, and Pam (John) Dobbels; six grandchildren, Wade, Matt, and Carly Boens, Chelsey (fiancé Robert McDaniel) Love, Tashia (Alec) Kerins, and Maddie Dobbels; a brother, Robert (Cleo) Boens; a sister-in-law, Rosalee Boens; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold "Bud" Boens.
