Rex C. Scritchfield

July 6, 1926 — October 24, 2013

Coal Valley, Illinois

Rex C. Scritchfield, 87, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, October 24, 2013, at his son, Craig's home in Coal Valley.

Services are 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is two hours prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

He was born July 6, 1926, in Milton, Iowa, the son of John L. and Roxie (Johnson) Scritchfield. He graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa, where he lived for many years. He served our great country in the United States Army during World War II.

Rex married Freda Carol Freeman on June 27, 1953, in Rock Island, Illinois. She died September 8, 2001. He worked at least 67 years as an accountant and tax preparer for Bowman Accounting in Rock Island, retiring on September 23, 2013. He always loved working with Paul and Rose, and special thanks go out to them from Rex's family.

Rex was a workaholic, as to give his family everything that was needed. However the most precious times he had were spending time with his family, especially going on vacation to all parts of the country.

He was a lifetime member of the Moline American Legion Post #246 and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Rex is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Jill of Coal Valley, Tim and Keri of Cable, Illinois, and Mark and Kathy who reside in their parents' home in Coal Valley, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carol, a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Victory Strickler.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses in the Iowa City Veteran's Hospital, the nurses at UnityPoint Hospice, especially Linda, and the waitresses at Joe's Place in Coal Valley, for the wonderful care they gave to Rex.
