Ralph L. McCoy, 90, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. A luncheon will follow at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday with a Masonic funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Ralph was born July 12, 1926, in Letts, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Delia (Goodwin) McCoy. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17 and was a proud World War II veteran. He married Muriel Christensen on April 15, 1947, in Moline. She died July 20, 2016. He was a locomotive engineer for Rock Island Lines Railroad for 45 years before driving for MetroLINK for 8 years.

He enjoyed watching westerns, going to the casino, watching his daughter perform in the Quad City Symphony, and biscuits and gravy from Flip's Pancake House. He was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and their families.

Ralph is survived by three children and their spouses, Linda and Gary VanOteghem, and Robert and Margaret McCoy, all of Moline, and Lesa and Thomas "Tim" Bishop of Virginia Beach, Virginia; grandchildren, Steven and David VanOteghem, and Daniel McCoy, all of Moline, and Anna Elizabeth Bishop of Richmond, Virginia; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Kristen Fitzpatrick of Bradenton, Florida, and Sam and Jody Fitzpatrick of Pontiac, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Jessica, Kyle, and Gabriella; great-great-grandchildren, Eden, Lucy, and Avery; and his beloved dog, Trixie. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Verna and Wanda; a brother, Glen; and a grandson, Jeff VanOteghem.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs at UnityPoint and Silver Cross Health for the wonderful care given to Ralph.
