Susan R. Sprenkle, 68, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church, Moline, with The Reverend Allen Mothershed officiating. Interment will be in Hutsonville, Illinois. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church and one hour before services on Friday. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers and memorials, Susan?s family requests that those wishing to honor her do so by sharing an evening out with their family and friends to appreciate their love and friendship while they are together.
The former Susan Gay Rains was born September 13, 1940, in Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Murry and Zylpha (Hathaway) Rains. She graduated from Hutsonville, Illinois, High School and Western Illinois University, Macomb with a B.S. in Business. She married David Ellsworth Sprenkle on June 29, 1963, in Hutsonville.
Susan was Financial Secretary at First Congregational Church, Moline, from 1984 to 2007. She previously was a business teacher at Northwestern High School and a library clerk at St. Cloud University. She was an active member of First Congregational Church, where she was currently secretary of the Church Trustees, and had been active in the Christian Education committee and bell choir. She loved music, was an accomplished pianist, and enjoyed playing for the church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and visiting family.
Susan is survived by her husband, David; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Eric Jones of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Amy and Dino Hasapis of Chicago; three grandchildren, Nicholas and Ava Jones and Christopher Hasapis; her mother, Zylpha Rains of Robinson; a sister Mary Jane Rains and her husband Daniel McAlees of Menomonee, Wisconsin; a niece, Amanda Hellman; and nephews Andy and Jason Hellmann. She was preceded in death by her father; a sister, Nancy Hellmann; and grandparents, Dee and Alta (Evans) Rains and Frank and Clara (McCrory) Hathaway.
