Charles E. Burk, 86, of Rock Island, Illinois, proud U. S. Navy Retiree, died Sunday, December 25, 2011, in his home.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 11:30 to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Charles Burk Memorial Fund.
Charles Edward Burk was born July 6, 1925, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Cleo Robert and Lucille Corwin Burk. He married Elizabeth Lee Carnes on April 24, 1954, in Rockford, Illinois. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1962, and was then a supervisor at John Deere DCS for 23 years, retiring in 1985. He and his wife performed as the duo ?Betchas? for Roberts River Rides for 10 years.
Chuck was a lifetime member of the Rock Island VFW Post #1303. He was a member of the American Legion in Ohio, and CMA, and a former member of Moline Elks Lodge. He enjoyed music, fishing and boating, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Bettie; three children and their spouses, Michael and Deborah Burk of Geneseo, Illinois, Teresa and Thomas Stonehouse of Rock Island, and John C. Burk of Moline; five grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Allyssa Burk, Brandon and Jamie Burk, Joshua and Paige Burk, Benjamin Burk, and Shawna Stonehouse; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma and Mable Burk of Bucyrus. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Stonehouse, and two brothers, James and Robert Burk.
