Nancy H. Oppenheimer, 78, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, November 1, 2010, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church, Moline, with The Reverend Allen Mothershed officiating. Private burial will be in Bowlesburg Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with a Time of Sharing at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Salvation Army, or a favorite charity.
The former Nancy Haddick was born March 16, 1932, in Moline, the daughter of Ralph and Reva Stoehr Haddick. She graduated from Elgin, Illinois, High School, attended Iowa State University and graduated from Augustana College. She married Donald A. Oppenheimer on March 24, 1951, in Moline. She was a Title I and substitute teacher at Horace Mann School in Moline for three years.
Nancy was an active member of First Congregational Church, where she was involved in Stephen Ministry and the Prayer Group, and belonged to Chapter HB of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Tri-City Garden Club, Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at Iowa State University, YMCA, and King?s Daughters. She enjoyed singing with the choir for Augustana?s Handel?s Messiah, working in gardens, both her family?s and public gardens, and was an exceptional cook. She had a special relationship with the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and neighborhood children.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald; three children, John Oppenheimer MD and his wife Nancy of Portland, Oregon, Linda G. Oppenheimer MD and her partner Ann Marie Mehlum of Eugene, Oregon, and Susan J, Owen and her husband Brett of Moline; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Laura and Joel Odom, Karl Oppenheimer, Oliver and Anna Owen, Peter and Stacey Owen, Charlie and Chris Owen and Emily Owen, and Ann Marie?s children, Tyler and Lannon Cling; five great-grandchildren; and her brother and sister-in-law, John and Penny Haddick of Dayton, Ohio, with whom she had a close and long-time relationship.
