Muzos Dedoncker

June 16, 1924 — November 26, 2011

East Moline, Illinois
Leroy F. DeDoncker, 87, beloved husband, father and grandfather, entered eternal life on November 26, 2011, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ The King Catholic Church, Moline, with The Reverend Donald Levitt officiating. Burial is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, East Moline, where East Moline American Legion Post #247 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour before the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, in which Leroy had participated. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
Leroy Francis DeDoncker was born June 16, 1924, in Moline, Illinois, to Alfons and Florence (Parry) DeDoncker. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWll but never saw action, only because the war ended before his training was completed. He married Florence K. Smelkowski on February 2, 1947, in Clinton, Indiana. He retired from International Harvester, East Moline Works, where he worked as a welder eventually retiring as a foreman in the welding department.
He was a founding member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, where he had served as usher, funeral acolyte and Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist until his health prevented him continuing, a lifetime member of East Moline American Legion Post #247, and a member of Knights of Columbus and Moline Vikings. He loved life, his family, his faith, his country, and golf. He was very proud when he made a hole-in-one and it pained him greatly when his declining health prevented him from getting out on the links. Leroy loved flying and had a pilot?s license at age 16.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Florence; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sharon (Tolmie) DeDoncker and their son, Tim, all of Rockford, Illinois; his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Henry Hicks of Moline, and their son, Seth, of St. Louis, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Roy Scott.
Leroy?s family invites friends to share stories and condolences and light a candle in his memory at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
