Muriel I. Meritt, 86, of Coal Valley, Illinois, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Argyle, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, in her daughter?s residence in Coal Valley.
There will be no public services. Memorials may be made to a local animal shelter. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
The former Muriel Ione Morarie was born June 22, 1925, in Paris, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Muskgrove) Morarie. She married Walter Meritt on February 23, 1942, in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. Muriel taught in a one-room school in Coggin, Iowa.
Muriel is survived by children, Martha Meritt of Monroe, Wisconsin, Donna and David Creger of Coal Valley, Walter and Peggy Meritt of Tomah, Wisconsin, Donald Meritt of Seminole, Florida, David Meritt of Monroe, Steven and Sheri Meritt of Monroe, and Regina and Mike Butson of Argyle, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, one sister, and four brothers.
