Milton ?Hook? Sherwood, Jr., 81, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Friday, July 28, 2006, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
Services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend David R. Schultz officiating. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Orion Veterans? Monument Fund, P.O. Milton Arthur Sherwood, Jr. was born Novemeber 7, 1924, in Lake View, Iowa, the son of Milton Sr. and Christina (Auen) Sherwood. He married Veronika Shannon Cooper on July 6, 1954, in Kahoka, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army for three enlistments during WW II and the Korean War. He served in the 23rd Signal Company, the ?L? Company, the 9th Infantry, and the 36th Infantry. He was a factory worker for IH East Moline Works for 30 years, retiring in 1981.
Milton was a past member of the Orion VFW and a lifetime member of the Aledo VFW. He coached for Horace Mann Dad?s Club for 20 years. He was also a member of UAW Local #1304 and the International Harvester Men?s Golf League. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, taking pictures, and being with his family.
Milton is survived by his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Patricia Cooper of Orion, Illinois, Jeffrey and Brenda Sherwood of Kingwood, Texas, and Scot and Debbie Sherwood of Sierra Vista, Arizona; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Cooper and David Castiaux of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Holly and Robert Kier of Clarksboro, New Jersey, Marcy and Calvin Ainsworth of Kennewick, Washington, and Lori and Kent Anderson of Condon, Oregon; sisters and a brother-in-law, Milvina Freymuller of Tampa, Florida, and Ona and Clark Weary of Ida Grove, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mildred Sherwood of Denver, Colorado; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Sidney, Donald, and Arnold Sherwood; and sisters, Bessie Sherwood and Cora Dietl.
