Milton Bennett, 83, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island, Illinois.

Graveside services are Wednesday at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet the family at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, before 1:45 p.m.

Milton Chester Bennett was born April 25, 1926, in Brighton, Colorado, the son of Leslie and Ruth (Sayre) Bennett. He married Bernadette Fiori on October 10, 1970, in Rock Island. She died July 25, 2009. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1945. He joined the Naval Aviation Cadet program at Pensacola, Florida, in May of 1950. He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1954, and was honorably discharged as a lieutenant in 1974.

Milton worked for JI Case as an engineer before retiring and going to work for the Rock Island Arsenal. He was a pilot, and enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels, playing tennis and badminton, and was an avid croquet player. He could fix absolutely anything.

Milton is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ann and Bruce Reber of Denton, Texas, Rose Nelson of Silvis, Illinois, Diane Bennett of Independence, Iowa, and Michele and Jamie Jackson of Deatsville, Alabama, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Les and Karen Bennett, and a sister, Patricia Germain. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Considine.
