Coal Valley, Illinois Mildred A. Tornes, age 79 of Coal Valley, died Monday, February 18, 2002 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with the Rev. Robert Hagen officiating. Visitation is Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society. The Former Mildred Ada Veberg was born on October 31, 1922 in Brooks, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Ernst H. and Mathilda (Johnson) Veberg, and married Palmer Tornes in Moline, he preceded her in death on September 13, 1992. She had most recently been employed by Dan-a-way in Coal Valley. Mildred was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, where she was a member of the Mary Martha Guild. Her survivors include her daughter, Linda and George Barton of Sherrard, two grandsons, Jay Schwartzkopf of Milan, Paul Schwartzkopf of Sherrard, four step-grandchildren, Katherine Crawford of Sherrard, Kelly Gasper of Moline, Melissa VanderLinden of Moline, and Troy Barton of Rock Island, a special and caring brother-in-law, Norman Tornes of Coal Valley, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was a grandaughter, Dana Schwartzkopf, three sisters, Hedvig Peterson, Sigrid Holcomb, Ruth Findley, and two brothers, Ernest and Bernard Veberg.
