Maynard E. Minteer

July 27, 1922 — August 2, 2004

East Moline, Illinois Maynard E. Minteer, 82, of East Moline, well-known local attorney, died Monday, August 2, 2004, at home. He went peacefully into the Lord's hands surrounded by his family. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery on Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital at Iowa City, or the American Cancer Society. Maynard was born July 27, 1922, to Earnest and Norma Downey Minteer in Aledo, Illinois. He married Evelyn Pollock Fletcher on August 11, 1951. He attended Aledo High School, Western Reserve University and earned a Bachelor of Law Degree from John Marshall Law School, Chicago, Illinois, in 1955. Maynard was a longtime Moline attorney practicing nearly 50 years. He was a member of the Illinois Bar Association, American Bar Association and the East Moline American Legion. He was a former 45-year member and Elder of the First United Presbyterian Church, Moline. Maynard served in the U. S. Navy for six years during WW II. He was a loyal patriot and proudly flew the American flag everyday. Interests and hobbies included bird watching, astronomy, dancing, airplanes, history, watching the river, and poetry. He was an avid reader and walker. In his 70's he participated for several years in the E. M. Firecracker Run. He was also the "official taste tester" at his daughters' annual Christmas cookie bake day. Maynard had an excellent sense of humor and was a great storyteller. He loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn; children and spouses, Lynne and Steve Myers, Barrington IL; Melody and Chuck Luebke, East Moline, Jeff and Cathy Minteer, Rock Island; Cindy and Steve Taghon, East Moline, and Debbie and Jerry Orey, Silvis. Grandchildren include Seth, Linc & Alisa, and Sancha Myers, Beth Ann, Kevin and Caitlyn Luebke; Sabien, Christian, and Kiscena Minteer, and Jordan, Taylor and Dane Taghon. Great grandchildren are Samuel and Fletcher Myers. He is also survived by his sister Darlene Needham, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean Minteer, Ronnie and Norma Minteer, Larry Minteer, and Frances Minteer. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Mona Minteer, brother Elwood, brother-in-law Lewis Needham, sister-in-law Elaine Minteer and niece Toni Minteer.
