Mary Peterson Roets

Mary Louise Peterson Roets , 95, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 in Boulder, Colorado, with her daughter Carole at her side.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Following the burial, friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe.

Born April 26, 1920 in New Boston, Illinois, to Clyde and Elizabeth Hund Mattson, she was the youngest of three children. After graduating from New Boston High School, Mary moved to the Quad Cities and married Robert Peterson. She attended Brown's Business College in Rock Island. Shortly afterwards, Mary joined the WAVES during WWII and attended Hunter College, New York, and was then stationed in San Francisco. Mary worked at WAVE Headquarters in charge of Health, Recreation, and Welfare, where she was invited to be Frank Sinatra's dinner guest at the Fairmont Hotel where he was performing .

Following the war, their daughter, Carole Peterson was born. After her divorce, Mary and Carole moved to San Francisco for seven years, where Mary worked for one of San Francisco's leading architects. Upon returning to Moline, Mary was employed as bookkeeper/secretary in the hotel/restaurant business, working at Marando's, Le Claire Hotel, Blackhawk Hotel, Holiday Inn, and Sheraton Rock Island. It was here she met and married Archie Roets in 1973. After retirement they fell in love with Naples, Florida, living there for close to thirty years. They both were avid golfers until age 80, at Indian Bluffs and Short Hills Country Club in the Quad Cities, and Royal Palm and the Vineyards in Naples. Mary's other hobby was shopping! She and her girlfriends would plan lunch and shopping trips on a regular basis.

Mary and Archie also enjoyed traveling to Colorado, California, Hawaii, as well as yearly trips back to Illinois. On one vacation to Arizona, she was invited to be Lawrence Welk's dancing partner! Mary and Archie moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 2011 to be near her daughter, Carole and family.

Survivors include her daughter, Carole Peterson Weisheit and her husband Allen of Boulder, Colorado; grandson, Kyle Hall of Arvada, Colorado; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Hall; and Archie's family, stepsons and spouses, Greg and Shari Roets and Richard and Diane VanBell; grandchildren John Roets, Amber and Chris Thomas, Marc and Debbie Van Bell, and Chad and Jodi Van Bell; and great grandchildren, Amelia and Nolan Thomas, Caroline and Benjamin Van Bell, and Sarah and Jenna VanBell, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Elizabeth Mattson, her sister, Vera Saunders, and her brother, Warren Mattson.
