Mary Ash age 84 of Reynolds, Illinois died Tuesday, May 1, 2001 in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2001 at Preemption United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Leo V. Smith officiating, committal will follow at Preemption Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the service. Memorials may be given to Preemption United Methodist Church.

The former Mary Kathryn Cabeen was born on September 30, 1916 in Yellowstone County, Montana the daughter of Paul H. and Venus (Shoemaker) Cabeen. Following her mothers death Mary and her sister Polly were raised by her paternal grandparents; Arthur and Jennie Cabeen of Seaton, IL.She married Richard Walker Ash on June 20, 1943 in Aledo, Illinois; he died on June 6, 1992. Ms. Ash was an Elementary School Teacher at various Schools in Mercer County for twenty years retiring in 1973. She then worked for the Rock Island Argus , Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club, and volunteered her time to the Sherrard School District. Mary was a member of UMC Women at Preemption United Methodist Church, the Homemakers extension Association, AARP, and the Mercer County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Ash of Reynolds; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Connie Ash of Sherrard; two granddaughters, Kristine Calderone of Sherrard, and Kelli Schwarz of Park Forrest, IL; four great-grandchildren, Aaron and Paige Calderone of Sherrard, and Adam and Abby Schwarz of Park Forrest, IL; and a sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Jay Medford of Ames, IA.
