Marvin J. Reed, 83, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Sherrard, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013, in his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Sherrard Presbyterian Church, Sherrard, Illinois. Private burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services, and friends are invited to join the family at luncheon at the church following the services. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin James Reed was born February 10, 1930, in Dixon, Illinois, the son of James and Ethel Rhodes Reed. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and married Phyllis Borst on December 8, 1957, in Cable, Illinois. He was a mechanic with Riverside International Motor Truck, Davenport, and its predecessor International Harvester Trucks, for 39 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Sherrard Presbyterian Church and Viola American Legion, and enjoyed collecting and building clocks, camping, and watching television, especially westerns.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Joel Thompson of Rock Island, Illinois, and Marilyn and Brent Ovens of Milan, Illinois; two grandsons, Isaac and Henry Thompson; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marian and Kenneth Holdsworth of Aledo, Illinois, and Evelyn Schafer of Coal Valley, Illinois.
