Rock Island, Illinois Marjorie V. Parr, 95, of Friendship Manor, Rock Island, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, in Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island. A memorial service will be held at Friendship Manor, 1209 21st Avenue, Rock Island, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, followed by visitation. The Rev. Dr. Robert Miller, First Congregational Church, Moline, will officiate. Arrangements are being made through Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial, at Rose Lawn Memorial Estates, Moline, will be private. Memorials may be directed to Arrowhead Ranch, the Arthritis Foundation, or Friendship Manor's Benevolent Fund. Marjorie was born December 9, 1906, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Dr. William C. and Katherine (Parr) Van Benschoten. She attended Northwestern University for two years, and the University of Chicago, from which she graduated in 1928. She married Harold (Hank) Parr of Moline in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1938. He died in 1963. In Chicago before her marriage she was the editor of ''School Briefs'', a monthly promotional and educational publication which was sent to school superintendents by Scott Foresman & Co. After her marriage, in Moline, she was active in volunteer and community service. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a member of the Junior Service League, and an officer and member of the Auxiliary Board of the former Moline Public Hospital. She was a past president and 50 year member of Chapter HB of P.E.O. Sisterhood, a past president of the Quad City Alumnae of Kappa Kappa Gamma, having received her 75-year membership recognition for that fraternity in 2001, and a past president of Katherine Butterworth Circle of Kings Daughters. She was also a member of the Moline Literary Guild and the Rock Island County Historical Society. She enjoyed bridge and golf and was a 55 year member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Katharine and James M. Pyott of Glenview, Illinois, a step-son Edward M. Parr of San Juan Capistrano, California, and grandsons James P. (and wife, Jennifer) Pyott of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Charles L. Pyott of Los Angeles, California. A sister, Ruth Phipps, 102 years old, still resides in Evanston, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, who was President of Parr Instrument Co. in Moline, her brother, William Parr Van Benschoten, and her niece, Jane Van Benschoten.
