Marion “Tim” Dorothy

Marion W. “Tim” Dorothy, 91, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, October 29, 2011, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.

Services are 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Donald Jackson officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, in which he participated.

Marion Wayne Dorothy was born September 12, 1920, in Brookings, South Dakota, the son of Lee Albert and Gertrude Mamie Chisman Dorothy. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II, and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He married Doris Martha Bailey on November 2, 1952, in Peoria, Illinois. She died November 23, 1996. He was employed by John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline, for 31 years, retiring as supervisor in 1979.

He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, Moline American Legion Post #246, Moline VFW Post #2153, and John Deere Retirees. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, golf, bowling, and gardening, and was a football and baseball fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tim is survived by his daughter, Cecilia Paz of Moline; a granddaughter and her husband, Angie and Sean Nelson, and their children, Chloe and Landyn Nelson; two step-daughters, Patricia Quillin of Cleveland, Illinois, and Madeline Anderson of Mountain Home, Arkansas; six step-grandsons; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Fern Dorothy of Dubuque, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a step-son, Doug Anderson; a step-daughter, Diane Red; three sons-in-law; five brothers; and two sisters.
