Marillyn E. Whitbeck

Marillyn E. Whitbeck, 85, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Life Care Center of Sierra Vista.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estates, Moline, after which friends are invited to a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church.

The former Marillyn Elizabeth Engvall was born September 1, 1932, in Cranford, New Jersey, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Evert) Engvall. She married Theodore Whitbeck on June 17, 1950, in Moline. He died October 11, 2012.

She earned her LPN from Black Hawk College, where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She worked as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital in Moline before serving as a pharmacy technician at the Prescription Shoppe in Moline. She was also trained in fitting prostetics.

Marillyn was an active member of Union Congregational Church, Moline, where she sang in the choir, and the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church in Arizona. She also belonged to the Maude Van Meter Circle of King's Daughters, the Colona Homemakers, the PTA in Colona, East Moline and Moline, and was an assistant Girl Scouts leader. She volunteered for numerous charities over the years and was a 4-H leader.

She was a very artistic woman who also played the accordian. Above all else, family was the most important thing to her.

Marillyn is survived by three children, Christi Steiner of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Mark (Kathy Umstattd) Whitbeck of Moline, and Laura Patino of Sierra Vista; grandchildren, Joel (Shelly) Vroman of Orion, Vanessa (Brian DeRiemacker) Lager of Davenport, Anthony Patino of Omaha, Nebraska, Emmanda (Adam) Merrill of Tucson, Arizona, and Victoria (Jared Smet) Umstattd of Silvis; great-grandchildren, Devon, Avreigh, and Kinsley; and a brother, Tom Engvall. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted Whitbeck; a brother, Jack Engvall; and a son-in-law, Fernando Patino.
