Marian F. Knock

January 10, 1931 — April 28, 2015

Marian F. Knock, 84, of Moline, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A mass celebrating her life will be at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, at 10 a.m. Thursday, and burial will follow at Moline Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Friends of Trinity or River Bend Food Pantry.

The former Marian Frances Ormsby was born on January 10, 1931, in Durant Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Dorinda Trede Ormsby. She was Valedictorian at Durant High School, attended Cornell College and graduated from AIC in Davenport. She married Ralph C. Knock on December 22, 1951, in Davenport, Iowa. Together they raised 3 children. He preceded her in death on October 16, 1971.

Marian worked as an elementary school secretary and certified teacher aide at Logan School, Moline, for 26 years, retiring in 1995. She was a certified life member of the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the Center for Belgian Culture and for the Friends of Trinity at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Moline. She totaled over 6900 hours of volunteer service for the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program. She was a charter member and very active volunteer for parishioners at Christ the King Church serving on many committees, especially Social Concerns, as well as helping with the annual rummage sale, and a member of League of Women Voters and Moline Association of Educational Secretaries. She was a voracious reader and loved to solve crossword and other puzzles. It would be an understatement to say she didn't like to drive, but nevertheless, she delivered her grandchildren and several neighborhood children to and from school for many years.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and her daughter Sue. She will be fondly remembered by her sons Mike (Lenore) Knock, Rock Island, Rich (Mary) Knock, Lynn Center grandchildren Chris (Caroline Onel) Knock, Milwaukee, Andrew (Dejah Ray) Knock, Davenport, and Elizabeth Knock, Chicago, many cousins and relatives in Iowa, a special niece Dyann (Jim) Upshaw, Indio, California, and cousin Celie (Gene) Donohue, Moline.
