Jan Rorem, 87, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, February 7, 2011, in her home.
Services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Revered Lynne Carver of St. Peter?s Episcopal Church, Davenport, officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Mount Hope Cemetery in Battle Creek, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
She was born March 30, 1923, the only child of Silas and Lucy (Warnock) Rorem. She graduated from the Art Institute in Chicago and the Otis Art Institute in California. She was a member of the Art Students League in New York City. She taught at St. Katherine?s for several years before becoming an art instructor at Black Hawk College, Moline. She retired in 1985.
Jan was an accomplished artist and her art was the subject of many exhibits throughout the Quad Cities. She was known for her black and white drawings done in charcoal and graphite, figure-related oil paintings, and wood carvings.
She is survived by several cousins, including Rosemary Rorem Marshall of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Ned Rorem of New York, New York, and many devoted students.
