Gentiel M. ?John? DeGryse, 84, of East Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Gentiel Maurice DeGryse was born December 25, 1927, in Deinze, Belgium, the son of Irma and Victor DeGryse. He served in the Belgium underground during WW II, and came to the United States in 1951. He married Jacqueline DePourcq on November 12, 1955, in Moline. She died September 21, 1992. He married Phyllis Schnack Hansen on February 14, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was employed at Eagle Signal Company for 39 years, retiring as plant manager in 1991. He enjoyed cruises, fine food and wine, and playing bingo and bridge.
John is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children and their spouses, Connie Lasek and Roger Hornberg of Davenport, Iowa, Vickie and Bruce Duling of Rock Island, Bettie and Joe Truitt of Muscatine, Iowa, Tim and Fumie Hansen of Madeira, Ohio, Tom and Melissa Hansen of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Lesley and Jason White of Moline; grandchildren, Jill and Terrence McCleary, Kyle Lasek, Madison Duling, Miki and Maya Hansen, Luke and Noah Hansen, and Jake and Olivia White; great-grandchildren, Allison and Dylan McCleary; and sisters, Elsie and Bessie in Belgium. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline, his parents, and brothers, Lucien and Laurent DeGryse.
