Loraine Schmitt, 79, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, April 19, 2010, in Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Jerry Helms officiating. Entombment is in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the family.
The former Loraine Tucker was born January 17, 1931, in Fayette County, Alabama, the daughter of Edd and Icy Tidwell Tucker. She married Harvey J. Schmitt on February 27, 1961, in Fayette, Alabama. He died February 8, 2007.
Loraine worked in food service all her life. She was a food demonstrator for Anderson-Erickson Dairy for the past 10 years, and previously worked at Hostess Bakery for 12 years. She owned and operated Harvey and Loraine?s Home-style Restaurant for 10 years, and had worked at the Maid-Rite, both on Moline?s 5th Avenue. She was a member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Moline. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and cooking, and enjoyed collecting Victorian furniture, flowers and gardening, and following sports, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Loraine is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Ann Schmitt of Springfield, Illinois, and Todd and Tina Schmitt of Milan, Illinois; nine grandchildren, Zach, Christi, Chase, Jenna, and Trevor Schmitt, Amber, Jessica and Richard Downing, and Ashley Garvey; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nerlean Howton of Fayette, Alabama, and Mary Nix of Winfield, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, and one sister.
