Lois M. Mullen

March 18, 1923 — July 21, 2016

Lois Mullen, 93, a longtime resident of Coal Valley, Illinois, and most recently of Moline, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline, Illinois, following a brief illness.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Beulah Cemetery in Orion. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley.

The former Lois Mae Garrity was born March 18, 1923, in Moline, the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Morgan) Garrity. She graduated from Moline High School before marrying George Mullen. The couple was later divorced.

She worked as a teller at the State Bank of Orion for over 20 years.

Lois was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Coal Valley for around 75 years. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many of those years. She was a member and past worthy matron of Valley Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and served as president of the PTA. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, games, was a lifelong Chicago Cubs' fan, and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by two children, Stephen and Lori Mullen of Orion, and Patricia Mullen and Rick Turner of Coal Valley; grandchildren, Brooke and Josh Bainbridge, and Stephen Mullen, Jr., all of Orion, Lon and Amanda Mullen of Coal Valley, Danielle VanDusseldorp of Denver, Colorado, and Allen and Brittanie VanDusseldorp of NAS Lemoore, California; great-grandchildren, Carter, Jacob, Macy, Madelynn, Robbie, Tyler, Jak, and Alexandria; a brother-in-law, Dick Smart of Coal Valley; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Dorothy Garrity, and a sister, Elaine Smart.
