Coal Valley, Illinois Lois E. Hills, 89, formerly of Coal Valley, died Monday, October 6, 2003, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Hamlet Cemetery, Hamlet, Illinois. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Research or Rock Island County Extension Service for 4-H. The former Lois Elizabeth Mayhew was born September 20, 1914, in Marston, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Dora (Winegard) Mayhew. She married James M. Hills on June 25, 1948, in Seaton, Illinois. He died July 25, 1986. She was a teacher for 27 years, retiring in 1976 from Orion School District, after having previously taught in Mercer County and Moline. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, for over 50 years, and was a member of Friendship Guild of the church and Retired Teachers Association. In earlier years, she had been a 4-H and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and bird watching. Lois is survived by three children and their spouses, Wendell and Sherrill Hills of Lynn Center, Ruth and John Spibey of Cherry Valley, Illinois, and Carol and Richard Nichols of Alpha; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers, Delmar, Donald and Ralph Mayhew. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
