Linda S. Robinson

February 2, 1943 — March 12, 2022

Linda S. Robinson of Silvis, IL, passed away peacefully the night of March 11th, 2022, with her family close by and many family and friends having recently visited. Linda requested to be cremated, with no casket viewing or funeral service. A Celebration of Life gathering will be arranged at a later date this summer. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Jude's (www.stjude.org) or the USO (https://www.uso.org).

Linda Sue Williams was born in Ottumwa, Iowa, in February 1943 as the 8th (of 11) children of Wanda (Houston) and Albert Williams, and later became the matriarch of the family, loved and respected by all. She was a 1961 graduate of UTHS, as part of the first class to graduate from the “new” South Campus and married James Robinson in July of that year at the Hampton (IL) Methodist Church. The happy couple celebrated 60 years of marriage in July 2021 with dozens of family and friends from over 13 states in attendance.

She never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need, including volunteering to read to the elderly and sponsoring a young girl in the Philippines for $15 a month in the early 1970's. She was the cafeteria manager at Carbon Cliff-Barstow (now Aldrin) school district in Barstow, IL, for nearly 10 years in the 1980's, where she met many enduring friends. Linda was a big supporter of St. Jude’s and the United Services Organization (USO) and even knitted helmet liners for troops deployed to war zones. Besides time spent with family and friends, she enjoyed knitting, gardening, growing flowers, cooking, decorating, country music, watching shows about Alaska and hoarders, and especially enjoyed feeding and watching hummingbirds. She had an eye for fashion and decorating, setting the bar high for keeping an immaculate house and always looking her best.

Affectionately known as "Auntie L" by over 50 actual nephews and nieces, plus dozens of other children of close friends and extended family. While she had many nicknames, the one she was most proud of was “Granny”, to her grandchildren, Zach and Luke, whom she cherished. Linda was never one to back away from a problem and was always quick to let you know when she disagreed with you! She helped many friends and family members through tough times, always lending a hand to prepare food, take them to appointments, or just visit and make them feel better. She was a loving and thoughtful wife, encouraging and supportive mother, wonderful and caring grandmother, and the best friend you could have. She was so special that at least two baby girls were named in her honor over the years, Lucinda “Cindy” (Williams) Lindner and Linda 'Little Freida' (Finch) Nelson.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Charles, Harry, & Randy; sisters Wilma (Hanson), Marie (Bukowski), and Doris (Pilcher); and best friend Annabelle (Wise) Finch.

She is survived by her husband, James; sister, Edna (Shelton of Eugene, OR); brothers, Bill (Hampton, IL), Larry (& Julie of Ottumwa, IA), & Paul 'Happy' (& Veon of Des Moines, IA); son, Brian (& wife Diana of Chantilly, VA); two grandsons, Zach (& wife Amanda of Manassas, VA) and Luke (& wife Bianca of Englewood, CO); two great grandsons (Zeke & Axel); and best friend Gerry “Suzie” (Wise) Bledsoe.

The family would like to express a very heart felt appreciation to everyone who stopped by to visit Linda in her final days, plus the staff at the Cancer Center at Illini Hospital, and Maggie of Genesis Hospice for their unwavering care and support.

Linda’s family invites friends to share stories and condolences at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
