Norma C. Tunberg, 88, of Moline, Illinois, died peacefully Sunday, September 4, 2011, in Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The former Norma Catherine Schwertman was born November 2, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of August Frederick and Ida (Jaeggi) Schwertman. She married Robert A. Tunberg on June 21, 1947, in Davenport. He died May 1, 1991. With her husband, Norma owned and operated Whitey's Ice Cream for the past 58 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, and the Terpsichorean Dance Club, and was a past-president of the Garfield School PTA, John Deere Junior High PTA, and Junior Women'?s Club. Norma's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, and she loved to sit and converse with her four grandchildren and share a joke or story with them. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new territories with friends, needle work, golf, bicycling, and snow skiing.

Norma is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Susan Tunberg and Jon and Michelle Tunberg, all of Moline; grandchildren, Jennifer Tunberg of Chicago, Illinois, Annika Tunberg of New York, New York, and Robert Tunberg and Ingrid Tunberg, both of Moline; and siblings, Eleanor Schaefer and Jack Schwertman, both of Bettendorf, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Tunberg, and sisters, Dorothy Ann and René Schwertman.

The family extends love and gratitude to Sue Swords, her longtime care giver, deep appreciation to the staff at Bickford Cottage, Moline, and thanks to the staff at Trinity Rock Island.
