Leroy Bennett

LeRoy Bennett, 90, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in St. Anthony's Nursing and Rehab in Rock Island.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend William F. Coley of First Christian Church, East Moline, officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or to St. Anthony's.

LeRoy Duff Bennett was born March 27, 1921, in Raymond, Illinois, the son of William and Bertha (Duff) Bennett. He married Alice Westbrook on May 2, 1943, in Indiana.

Roy worked for Peter's Bakery in Moline and then Wonder Bread in Davenport as a baker, retiring in 1983. He was a member of First Christian Church, East Moline, where he and his wife were active in the Senior Citizen?s Retirement Club, and the Bakery and Confectionery Union and Industry. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice; children, Barbara and Jean Johnson of Delmar, Iowa, Susan Bennett of Chicago, Illinois, Ellen Parris of Moline, and Harold Bennett of Moline; grandsons and their spouses, Nathan and Stephannie Parris of Aurora, Illinois, and Luke and Sara Parris of Urbandale, Iowa; great-grandsons, Jonathan and Jackson Parris, a sister, Wilma Plog of Norwalk, California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Reba Bennett, Harold and Dorothy Bennett, Maynard and Betty Bennett, sisters and a brother-in-law, Agnes Bennett, and Florence and Ransom Tone, and a brother-in-law, George Plog.
