Jim Zimmerman, 76, of Davenport, Iowa, a proud Korean War Veteran, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, in his residence.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may me made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
James Leonard Zimmerman was born March 19, 1933, in Davenport, the son of Joseph Leonard and Avadelors (Evans) Zimmerman. A Korean War veteran, he served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He married Ida McIntire on May 30, 1958, in Denver, Colorado. He was a railroad machinist, retiring from CP Rail in 1999.
He was a NASCAR fan, and enjoyed Western and war movies, and tinkering in his garage.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ida; four children, Leona Vilmont and her husband Matt of Davenport, Dr. Linda Zimmerman Wozniak and her husband Thomas Wozniak of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, Laura Fahrenkrog-Pullen and her husband Michael of Moscow, Iowa, and David Zimmerman of Genoa, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Zack Vilmont, Victoria and Tabitha Wozniak, Landry Fahrenkrog, serving with the US Army Military Police in Iraq, Faith Fahrenkrog, and Andrew and Krista Zimmerman; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Barbara Graves of Hustler, Wisconsin.
