Kenneth A. Roman

Moline, Illinois Services for Kenneth A. Roman, 82, of Moline, well-known Moline businessman and golfer, are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, Moline. The Reverend Dr. Robert Miller will officiate. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to a golf scholarship fund which will be established in his name at Moline High School. Mr. Roman died Sunday, July 15, 2001, in his home. He was born August 17, 1918, in East Moline, the son of Harry and Anna (Larson) Roman. He married Ilaf Mabee on January 17, 1946, in East Moline. He was a corporal in the U. S. Army during WW II, serving in the Pacific Theater and receiving two bronze stars. After graduating from heating and air conditioning school and serving his apprenticeship, he started his own business, Roman Heating and Cooling in 1952, and owned and operated it until retiring due to illness in 1998. Ken was an avid golfer. He was a long-time member of Short Hills County Club, East Moline, where he was club champion in three different decades and a member of the club's team in the Velie Tournament for 56 years. He shot his age for the past 12 years, and still held the course record of 64 at Country View Golf Course in Geneseo. He was a volunteer coach for the Moline High School Girls Golf Team for seven years. He was a Die Hard Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed playing cards with his friends, and loved to follow his granddaughters' golf and softball teams. Ken is survived by his wife, Ilaf, a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John D. and Christine Roman, and a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Randy Erickson, all of Moline, and four grandchildren, Shannon and Jackson Roman and Kristy and Lynsy Erickson.
