John E. Swieter

John E. Swieter, 85, of Coal Valley, died Sunday, October 2, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Green Rock Free Will Baptist Church, Colona, with Pastor Sam Henderson officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the family.
John Edward Swieter was born April 24, 1920, in Stout, Iowa, the son of Dick and Grace (Meyer) Swieter. John married Agnes Thomann on April 30, 1955, in Preston, Minnesota. She died April 25, 2004. He worked for Dohrn Transfer for 19 years as an over the road driver, retiring in 1977. Previously, he worked for Mulford Bros. Construction and served three terms as Coal Valley Township Supervisor.
He was a member of the Coal Valley Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Teamsters Local #371, and Coal Valley American Legion Post 1248. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
John is survived by two sons, Milo and Lois Swieter of Holland, Michigan, and Tom and Fay Swieter of Spring Hill, Louisianna; three daughters, Rozanna Harvey and Roy Howser of Lincoln, Missouri, Gwen and Ruben Escajeda of Coal Valley, and Denise Beckman and Kevin Reeves of Hampton, Illinois; two brothers, Harvey and Barbara Swieter of Hampton, Iowa, and Robert and Shirley Swieter of Clarion, Iowa; a sister, Marian Meinberg of Geneva, Iowa; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Swieter; two brothers, Carl and Kenneth Swieter; and a grandson, Shawn Swieter.
