John B. Willhite

John Willhite, 97, of Silvis, Illinois, died Monday, September 27, 2010, in Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Private family services will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Arrowhead Ranch. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.

John Berkley Willhite was born December 5, 1912, in Milan, Illinois, the son of Frank and Emma (Crowder) Willhite. He married Dorothy Kolls on August 26, 1933, in Cambridge, Illinois. She died June 4, 2003.

John served in the United States Army, serving with the National Guard in the Korean Conflict, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 21 years. He worked for Farmall for 30 years, retiring in 1973 as Production Forecaster.

He was a member of Disabled Veterans Post #2, Davenport, American Legion Post #246, Moline, Moline Lodge #1014, AF&AM, and Scotish Rite Bodies Valley of Tucson, Arizona. He was an avid golfer and bowler and was most proud of shooting an 84 on his 84th birthday at Davis-Monthan AFB Golf Course in Tucson.

The family would like to give special thanks to Patty and Jodi from Crosstown Square in Silvis, Chris and Shelly at Illini Restorative Care, and Bev, Debbie, Megan, Mona, and Chaplains Todd and Dean with Genesis Hospice, for their wonderful care.

John is survived by a daughter, Peggy “Peg” Womack of Moline, a son and daughter-in-law, Berkley and Kathy Willhite of Moline, grandchildren, Scott and Caroline Womack, Steve Womack, Keith and Nancy Willhite, and Cynthia Morthland, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter at birth, brothers, George and Harold Willhite, and a son-in-law, Lee Womack.
