John Arthur Ries, Jr. was born March 18, 1948, in Moline, the son of John A. Sr. and Jacqueline (Miller) Ries. He was raised in Moline, graduating from Moline High School in 1966. He entered into apprenticeship and became a journeyman plumber, retiring after 35 years as a member of Local 25.
He married Necia Scott on October 21, 1967, in Moline, and lived most of his life in Moline. He served as president of Logan Dad?s Club for several years and coached both his daughters? softball teams for their elementary and high school years. He continued to coach Little League and played and coached men?s softball for many years.
Jack was a loyal Bears and White Sox fan, and never gave up on either one. He strove for perfection in all he did, whether on the job, at home, or helping whoever needed a helping hand. ?Just good enough? was not is Jack?s vocabulary.
Jack was a member of Doric Lodge #319, AF & AM, where he was the youngest to be named Master in Lodge history, and served twice as Worshipful Master. He always remained his own man and never gave up on his beliefs or principals, no matter how much he went against the norm.
He became a tremendous inspiration to his family and friends throughout his struggle with his illness, never complaining or losing his sense of humor, even on the worst days.
Most important to Jack were ?his girls,? his wife, daughters, mother, and grandmother. He loved them all dearly and worshipped his grandchildren and admired and respected his sons-in-law.
Jack will be sorely missed by his wife, Necia; daughters and spouses, Karrie and Jeff Holland and Kathy and Cary David, all of Moline; and grandchildren, Isabella and Jacob Holland and Ella and Ries David. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Valerie Ries; a special brother-in-law and his wife, Tom ?Scottie? and Ora Scott; a brother-in-law and his wife, Phillip and Sharon Scott; his mother- and father-in-law, Bobbie and Tom Scott; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mike McAvoy, who shared all of his hopes, dreams, laughter and tears and never failed to talk to him every day.
