Joan Eva Adolphson, 69, of Aledo died Friday, September 6, 2002 at her son's home in Bettendorf.

Funeral Services will be Monday at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church, Aledo. Burial will be in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 at the First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Vashti Village or Genesis Visiting Nurse Association. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo is in charge of arrangements.

Joan was born on January 6, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Omer and Olive (Wernli) Payne. She was previously married to Robert M. Adolphson. Joan retired in 1994 from Apollo Elementary School, where she was a cook. She had previously worked at Wagner's Pharmacy and Martha Brown's in Aledo. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church, Aledo, and the women's circle of the church. She enjoyed bowling, ceramics, gardening and bird watching.

Joan is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Karen Adolphson of Aledo; Kerry and Heidi Adolphson of Bettendorf and Steven and Nancy Adolphson of Aledo; 3 daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa and Donald Ford of Rapids City, IL; Cherie and Scott Mason of Orion and Melinda ''Mindy''and Dan Hunt of Jefferson City, MO; 16 grandchildren; Bryce, Lindsey and Brock Adolphson, Tanner Adolphson, Matthew Gerland, Laryn and Hadden Henderson, Jeremy Adolphson, Nicole Hall, Andrea Adolphson, Richard, Collin and Brianna Ford, Derek, Morgan and Alec Mason; her father, Omer Payne of Earlham, IA; 2 sisters: Betty & Carroll Warren of Carlyle, IA and Virginia and Delbert Grove of Adair, IA and a brother, Truman and Sheri Payne of Earlham, IA. Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Olive Payne and brothers, Kenneth and Thomas Payne.

Open wide the gates of Heaven. Let the angels song be heard. The songbirds are singing their sweetest. The gardens bloom and bough to welcome her home.
